The Candle on the Island

The latest issue of Island (Island 120; http://www.islandmag.com/) is dedicated, more than ever, to green writing and the literature of place. Specifically, it carries a number of essays, poems— and Tom Griffiths’ beautiful testimonial to Eric Rolls—from the July 2009 Watermark Festival.

Among many fine pieces in the issue you’ll find Carolyn Leach-Paholkski’s tender and accomplished poems “The Sorrow Bird” and “Now You are Lost to Me”, Richard Lemm’s elegant “Among the Jellyfish” and Debbie Lim’s haunting “Visitation”.

The theme of last year’s Watermark was timber. And Gina Mercer has also included in issue 120 a splinter of my book The Blue Plateau, “The Candle”.
