Poetry, Place, Truth and Self on the Sunshine Coast, 24–25 July 2010

Reality Bites 3, Australia’s unique festival of literary nonfiction, is drawing close.

The festival runs from 23 July to 1 August, over two successive weekends. Midwinter in the Noosa hinterland: heaven on earth.

I’m on two panels, both with Robert Gray. Two poets crashing a prose party.

On the Saturday we talk about memoir, place, lyric nonfiction and, if we have any time left, the writing life. This session is “Places of the Heart”; it’s shaped around our two memoirs. On Sunday we talk about the nature and uses of poetry, in particular any relationship it might have to autobiography. What is the nature of the truth poetry tells, and how does it go about telling it? These are our questions.

But there are loads of fine writers appearing at the festival, among them Danielle Clode, Maggie Hamilton, Sally Henderson, Steven Lang, Ian Lowe, David Marr, Liz Minchin, Linda Neil, and Robyn Williams.
