Poetry and Place in the Southern Tablelands

Poet Lizz Murphy has laboured long and elegantly over the past year to put together a touring poetry event, Poetry and Place, involving nine poets from the Southern Tablelands (around Goulburn) of New South Wales. Central to the event are poetry readings and reflections on place and place-making by poets, held in libraries across the region, from Braidwood to Picton, via Bowral and Crookwell.

The poets are Jane Baker, Margaret Berry, Nicola Bowery, Russell Erwin, Robyn Lance, Harry Laing, Elizabeth Lawson, Lizz Murphy, and me.

The tour kicked off this Tuesday in Braidwood. It moves to Queanbeyan on Wednesday, Boorowa and Yass on Thursday, Crookwell and Goulburn on Friday and Bowral on Monday (15 November).

I’m reading in Crookwell (1:00 pm at the library) on Friday (12 November), with Russell, Margaret, and Lizz; I’m reading again on Friday evening in Goulburn (7:00 pm at the library) with Robyn, Margaret, and Elizabeth. I read again on Monday in my home town, Bowral, at 7 pm in the library, with Robyn and Russell.

There’s another reading on 5 March next year in Picton. I’ll be there, too, with Lizz, Jane and a mysterious Picton Poet.
