Meet Me at the Bookshop Bowral, 16 February 2012

“It is difficult to get the news from poems,” wrote William Carlos Williams, “yet men die miserably every day for lack of what is found there.”

My local bookshop in the highlands, The Bookshop Bowral, has asked me to come along and share some of the news poetry tells, next Thursday, 16 February, at 6 pm.

I’ll talk about the Montreal Prize, which I won last year, and the state of poetry and why we need it so much more than we realise. I’ll read some poems, including “Walking Underwater” (the poem that won the MPP); I’ll read some other work (prose and new poetry); I’ll talk a little about my writing life and, of course, the weather.

This is a free event.

The bookshop is at 309 Bong Bong Street; 4862 1634;
