Nike Bourke launched my small fiery craft (Fire Diary) in West End, Brisbane, on Monday night.
Thanks to Krissy and everyone at The Avid Reader for hosting us. And thanks to everyone who made it along. It was a joy to read a few poems ("Brisbane River Blues”, “Song of (Someone Like) My Self”, “Well after Midnight, a Long Way from Home") among friends (and friends of my writing) in that lovely setting. I’d been in Brisbane teaching at the Queensland Writers Centre over the weekend, and I’d been getting lost in the Valley with my friend the Irish poet and painter John O’Sullivan, and found again in the sunlight on the river all day. But the greatest joy of the day was to hear Nike speak so beautifully, personally and expertly about the poetry I hoped I’d written.
