Debussy & Me

Will Duchon read my poem “Red Moon Eclogues” last Friday night on his radio program “Words and Music” on WMNR Fine Arts Radio, Connecticut.

I was delighted to have some of my work aired, and in some fine company (Tess Gallagher, especially), on Will’s program.

When he asked me what music I’d like him to play with the poem, I had no trouble. The poem mentions Debussy (with Bach, my favourite composer), and there’s something about the play of levity and gravity in his Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp that I recognise as the mood of my poetry—that pastoral piece of mine, especially. So he played it. In fact, he said it was exactly the piece he’d had in mind from the start.
