Essay Eleven-and-a-half Reasons to Unseat a Government

Published : Saturday, October 27, 2007

I’ve just finished an essay, “Eleven-and-a-half Reasons to Unseat a Government”. It argues the moral case for a change of government and concludes:

“My point is: all these instances point up a pattern; this is what happens if you govern without reference to ideas bigger and older and sounder than your own. This regime has been pragmatic and craven to the point of moral bankruptcy. We, the people, who are better than this, are demeaned by such governance. Democracy, though, is hardy, and has survived this affliction. So let’s put democracy to work; let’s vote out a regime that’s governed with disdain for common courtesies and larger virtues.”

I’m proud to publish this new work on my new site. Read it here, if you think the way a government behaves matters and if morality has something to do with democracy and the rule of law.
